Non-bailable warrants for Aliya Hamza

LAHORE: An anti-terrorism court on Thursday issued non-bailable arrest warrants for PTI`s former MNA Aliya Hamza Malik for failing to appear in the jail trial proceedings of the Jinnah House attack case of May 9 riots.

ATC-l Judge Manzer Ali Gill conducted the hearing at Kot Lakhpat jail.

The judge expressed displeasure over the absence of Ms Malik and rejected her request for exemption from appearance. The judge issued non-bailable arrest warrants for her.

The judge observed that the statements of the prosecution witnesses could not be recorded due to the absence of Ms Malik.

The judge noted that the PTl leader had been absent from four hearings of the case.

The judge also issued a show-cause notice to the guarantor of the accused and ordered forfeiture of her surety bonds.

Meanwhile, the judge allowed the request of fashion designer Khadija Shah for a one-time exemption from personal appearance.

The judge adjourned the hearing till June 14.

Separately, ATC-Ill Judge Arshad Javed adjourned the trial hearing of four other cases of May 9 riots including violence at Sherpao Bridge due to the absence of the defence counsel.

The prosecution presented its five witnesses for the testimony, however, the lawyers for the accused persons were not available.

The judge adjourned the hearing till June 11.
