SUKKUR: A youth lured to romance through telephonic friendship was kidnapped while his two friends accompanying him escaped the trap laid by a criminal gang operating in Jacobabad district.
The victim, Darwesh Monhjo, had been lured by one of the gangsters who excelled in chatting and speaking in a girl`s voice.
After days of conversations with him, the `girl` invited him to a date at a specified place in Kandhkot town.
Darwesh, along with his two friends, Tahir Monhjo and Deedar Monhjo, left their houses in Ahmed Mian Soomro village of Jacobabad district and travelled to Kandhkot butassoonasthey reachedthetown on Monday, a gang of several armed men riding motorcycles emerged and tried to overpower them. While they caught hold of Darwesh, Tahir and Deedar sensed the danger and ran away. The gang took away Darwesh after forcing him onto one of the motorcycles.
Tahir and Deedar returned home and narrated the episode to their families and police. They said Darwesh was first asked by the `girl` to come to Thull town and then directed to reach Kandhkot.
Darwesh`s mother fell into a state of shock when she was informed of her son`s kidnap.
His other family members approached former MNA Mir Babul Khan Jakhrani for help.
On his intervention, Jacobabad SSP Abdul Qayyum Pitafi and Kandhkot-Kashmore SSP Syed Asad Raza mobilised the police of the two districts to safely secure the kidnap victim and arrest the gangsters.
