Robber involved in ASI`s murder killed in `encounter`

TOBA TEK SINGH: A suspect in police custody in the murder of Punjab highways patrolling police assistant sub-inspector Hamid Naseer Warraich was killed in an encounter in Faisalabad on Monday.

Spokesperson for the Faisalabad CPO Syed Muneeb Ahsan said that on April 29 during a robbery in the house of deceased ASI Warraich in Madina Town locality, robbers and the deceased ASI exchanged fire in which the ASI and two robbers were killed and the third robber, Mubashar Shakoor, of Sheikhupura,wasinjured and arrested by the police. He said a police party recovered weapons on Mondayin the wee hours from a placewith suspect Mubashir. While returning to the police station, four gunmen riding two motorcycles attacked the police van to get him free from police custody on Canal Road and opened indiscriminate firing on the police van which was also retaliated. When the firing stopped, the police found Mubashar killed due to the firing of his own accomplices. He also said the deceased was wanted by the police of dif ferent districtsin dozens of dacoity and murder cases.

In another incident, three underarrestrobberswereshotatandinjured by their six accomplices who intercepted a police van which was taking the suspects to recover weapons near Chak Ghoona. The injured included Husnain, Asif and Sajid, all of Chak 203 RB. They were admitted to theAllied Hospitalin critical condition.

ACCIDENT: A woman died and four passengers of a motorcycle-rickshaw were injured critically in the wagon-rickshaw collision in Gojra on Faisalabad-Jhang Road on Monday, according to Rescue 1122 of ficials.

Rickshaw driver Shahzad, of Nawan Lahore Chak 247 JB, was on his way with passengers when a Faisalabad-to-Jhang wagon hit the rickshaw. Driver Shahzad and passengers Liaqat Ali, his wife Shahnaz, Mohammad Ramzan and Roshan Bibi were seriously wounded.

They were rushed to Nawan Lahore rural health centre where Roshan Bibi succumbed to her wounds while all other four were referred to the Faisalabad Allied hospital. The wagon driver fled.
