Business resumes at cattle market

LAHORE: The business activities at Shahpur Kanjran cattle market resumed on Monday af ter the Punjab cattle market management and development company (PCMMDC) restored operations by carrying out various rehabilitation-related activities.

`We have restored the trade operation by placing tents for the stay of animals, buyers and purchasers. We have also started work on rebuilding of the bamboo sheds and other structures burnt completely or partially during a recent blaze,` LocalGovernment & CommunityDevelopment Department DG Ms Kausar Khan, who also heads the PCMMDC as CEO, told Dawn. `This was also done within two days after the fire tragedy,` she added.

It may be mentioned that the eruption of massive fire burnt 315 of the 591 bamboo sheds made for cattle besides killing eight goats within a short span of time a couple of days back.

A forensic team also visited the site on Sunday and found evidence of short circuiting which caused the May 5 fire at the Shahpur Kanjran cattle market -Punjab`s biggest point for trade of animals.
