Woman suffers severe burns mysteriously

NAROWAL: A woman suffered critical burns under mysterious circumstances at Chahla village of Shakargarh Tehsil on Monday.

As per official data, it was second incident in which a woman was burnt in Narowal district during thelast10 days.

According to Shakargarh Rescue 1122 officials, they were informed that a woman, Mumtaz Bibi (50), a resident of Chahla village, suffered severe burns under mysterious circumstances.

On reaching the village, the rescuers found the woman with severe burns and shifted her to Shakargarh Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Hospital, where Dr Muhammad Naveed, who was on duty in the emergency ward, referred the patient to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital after provision of first aid.

DHQ hospital sourcessaid given the patient`s serious condition, she was later referred to a hospital in Lahore.

District Emergency Officer Adnan Nawaz said that according to hospital sources, the woman suffered 60pc burns.

According to Mumtaz Bibi`s son Shahbaz, his mother suffered burns when she was heating milk on a stove and a can of petrol lying nearby suddenly caught fire.

However, two village residents, Baqir Ali and Abdullah, said Mumtaz Bibi would have frequent quarrels with her family members over financial issues and might have committed self-immolation.

In another incident on May 2, a woman, Saima Bibi, a mother of five, had attempted suicide by setting herself ablaze when her husband could not buy new clothes for their children on Eid.

The police concerned are looking into the matter.
