Islamabad expressway

2016-04-11
THE Islamabad expressway has now become a nightmare for commuters during rush hours. At times, it is closed for VIP movement, sometimes blocked by protesters against loadshedding, sometimes blocked by political activists and at other times by clerics.

Recently, owing to the construction of interchange and underpass the Islamabad highway at Karal Chowk remained jampacked during office hours. The need for an alternative route by way of a Ring Road etc has been voiced at different forums. Ring Road would facilitate commuters of the twin cities. Heavy traffic could be moved to the alternative route and at the same time the route could be used by motorists in emergency.

Pending the completion of the two projects mentioned above, the movement of trucks and other heavy vehicles be restricted during daytime, to provide some relief to the office-goers. If it can be done on The Mall,Rawalpindi, why cannot the same be implemented on the Islamabad highway and expressway? Muhammad K. Sufi Islamabad
