KARACHI: A judicial magistrate on Monday granted bail to four policemen in a case pertaining to the escape of three suspects from custody.

Sub-inspector Javed Ahmed, and constables Shakoor, Sajid Hasnain and Shakir Ali were tal(en in custody on Aug 9 for their alleged negligence following the escape of three suspects Mohammad Shan, Ali Akbar and Shan alias Shani from the city courts.

The judicial magistrate (South) Syed Nadeem Zafar Hashmi granted bail to the policemen against a surety bond of Rs10,000 each.

The prosecution said that the suspects were booked for robbery and possession of illicit weapons at Nazimabad police station and the police brought them to city courts on Sunday for remand, but they managed to flee. Later, the police arrested two suspects and the court remanded them to prison. One suspect is still at large.

A case was registered against the policemen and the escaped suspects.Assistant Sub-Inspector Naeem Qureshi and Ali Akbar were the absconders in the case.
