T HE opposition parties, especially the PPP and the MQM, have expressed their concerns over the preliminary results of thepopuladoncensusinSindh, particularlyinKarachi.
The census operation was conducted on a uniform basis all over Pakistan.
Therefore, it is not possible that the census operation could have had any bias in presenungthe actualpopuladonstadsucs of a certain area.
The decrease in the growth rate of Karachi`s population makes a lot of sense if one considers the fact that the law and order situation in the metropolis f rom 1985 till 2016 was precarious, to put it politely.
The honourable judges of the SupremeCourt had already highlighted this fact in their remarks and showed great concern over it when dealing with cases pertaining to law and order in the city.
It is a known f act that the population tends to decrease or grow at a lower rate in cities that face problems of law and order, and or economic, energy, water crises. It pains one to state that our beloved Karachi suffers from all these maladies. Need one say more? In my humble opinion, the census result should be accepted in the country`s best interests.
Furthermore, all stakeholders in Karachi should sit together and restore this jewel to its former pristine glory.
