Eight hospital heads to discuss removal of grey areas

LAHORE: Heads of eight teaching hospitals and specialised healthcare institutions of Lahore will gather here on Saturday evening to discuss with the administration concerned measures to remove grey areas existing in their respective institutions.

The grey areas have been pointed out by field coordinators in a report presented during a meeting presided over by Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Department Special Secretary Dr Sajid Mahmood Chauhan on Thursday.

The field coordinators were deputed by Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Department Secretary Najam Ahmed Shah to submit reports on the basis of monitoring and evaluation of the performance of Jinnah Hospital, Lahore General Hospital, Punjab Institute of Cardiology, Punjab Institute of Mental Health, Services Hospital, Mayo Hospital, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital and Children`s Hospital.

The reports pointed out certain gaps and grey areas in sanitary system,MSDS (minimum service delivery standards), cleanliness condition, availability of medicines, attendance of doctors and the staff, functioning of biomedical equipment, strategic reserves for patients, outsourcing of janitorial services, cleanliness and hygienic condition of washrooms, availability of wheelchairs and stretchers in the emergency departments and maintenance of stores and pharmacies.

Dr Chauhan said the main objective of the exercise was to improve the healthcare delivery system of the teaching hospitals and provide maximum treatment facilities of good quality to the patients.

He said one-week time has been given to the administration [of these hospitals] to improve the situation in their institutions.

He directed SH&ME Director Monitoring and Evaluation Zaheer Abbas Malik to call a meeting of administrative doctors of the teaching hospitals and specialisedhealthcareinstitutions on Saturday evening so that the gaps pointed out in the reports could be discussed with them.

He also sought a report regarding different steps taken for removal of gaps.
