Sindh Food Authority

2017-03-14
THISis aproposeditorial`Sindh food authority` (March 10).

Although the establishment of Sindh Food Authority is, no doubt, a commendable step in improving the quality of food in Sindh`s eateries, it would be an excercise in futility unless the provincial government ensures the appointment of food inspectors and other officials who are honest. The selection of these personnel should be on merit alone.

The inspectors who perform their duties honestly should be provided protection of their jobs.

A few years ago I happened to visit a supermarket in Karachi where, in the vegetables section, I saw spinach that wascompletely unfit for human consumption. I pointed it out to the owner of the super market. He shamelessly said that he owned a marriage hall too where it would be consumed that very evening.

At least some inspector must visit supermarkets too.
