GHALANAl: A local rights body organised a walk in Mian Mandi Bazaar here on Monday to create awareness about the upcoming population census in the tribal region.
The walk was led by Mohmand Welfare Organisation president Mir Afzal Mohmand.
The participants carried placards and banners inscribed with slogans asking people to participate in the census as it was their moral duty.
On the occasion, Afzal Mohmand said census had great importance in the development of the tribal region. He urged the tribesmen to support and cooperate with the census teams.
He said in the last census population of Mohmand Agency was only 331,000 which had now gone up to 900,000 people.
He claimed that due to the mistakes made in the last census Mohmand tribal region had only one seat in the National Assembly, while Bajaur, Khyber and other tribal agencies had two seats each. -Correspondent
