PPP announces drive against outages

By Our Staff Reporter 2018-04-14
LAHORE: PPP`s central Punjab President Qamar Zaman Kaira says the party will soon launch a movement against loadshedding in the province.

Speaking at a press conference here on Friday, he said the protest drive would be launched from April 20, with the main event in Lahore on April 27.

He claimed that rural population was facing 12 to 14 hours outages contrary to official claims that the energy crisis was over.

Recalling the PML-N attack on the Supreme Court back in 1998, the PPP leader said the heinous act could not be repeated as the situation and society stood changed now.

Responding to a query, Mr Kaira said that drawing a parallel between Nawaz Sharif and Zulfikar Ali Bhutto or Benazir Bhutto was not justifiable.

He told a questioner that the PPP was in favour of the creation of Janoobi Punjab province when it was in power but then it didn`t have numerical strength in the parliament to carve out the new administrative unit by amending the Constitution.

Answering a question, he said the party didn`t want to delay the general election and supported the call for holding the electoral exercise in time.

Provincial general secretary Ch Manzoor said on the occasion that the PPP had suggested repeal of the Article 62 because it had been inserted in the basic law of the land by former army dictator Gen Zia but lamented that Nawaz Shairf had opposed the proposal and was now paying the price.
