Efforts stressed to improve Pakhtuns` image

TIMERGARA:Speakers at a function on Saturday urged poets, writers and artists to portray the soft image of Pakhtun culture through their works.

During a poetic session at the hujra of Inayatullah in Siar Darra area, they said terrorism and lawlessness had inflicted great losses to Pakhtun culture, which nee de d ne cessary interventions for revival.

The Development and Empowerment of Women Association, a local NGO, arranged the event with the financial support of the directorate of culture under its ongoing three month revival of indigenous and culture heritage (Rich) project.

Local elders, social activists and youths attended the session in large numbers.

Pashto poets including Mehmood Jan, Inayatullah Khapalwal, Jamal Nasir, Mohammad Azim, Farhad Sabir and Khalid Khan recited folk poems, tapa, `nemakai`, `charbaita` and ghazal.

Amjad Ali, Inayatullah and Yasin Khan told participants that Pakhtun culture always promoted hospitality, brotherhood, peace and love but terrorism had badly affected it.

They said Pakhtuns were peace loving people but the recent waves of terrorism had damaged their soft image.

The speakers urged poets and writers to focus on the restoration of the image of Pakhtuns.

They appreciated theculture directorate for the Rich project saying the initiative would go a long way in reviving the local cultural heritage.

The speakers asked communities to protect cultural music, hujra activities and traditional games.

LINK ROAD: Timergara tehsil nazim Riaz Mohammad on Saturday inaugurated a link road for the Government High School Mian Banda near Timergara city.

The inaugural function in Mian Banda area was attended by officials of elementary and secondary education department, local government representatives andlocalelders.

Nazim Riaz Mohammad said work on pavements, link roads, water supply schemes and health facilities valuing millions of rupees was in progress, while the tehsil government had formed a committee to oversee work on small projects.

He said his government would perform more efficiently if it got better budgetary allocations.

P O W E R T R A N S F O R M E R S : Awami National Party district councillor Mukhtar Khan on Saturday inaugurated the installation of 200KV power transformers in Qaziabad and Chamanabad villages during separate functions.

Mr Mukhtar Khan said 150 power transformers had been approved for PK-94 constituency.

He said his party would form the next government in the province after winningthe 2018 generalelections.
