AFTER reading a news item about supporters ofa Seraikiprovince in your newspaper commemorating the 199th year of the fall of Multan to Maharajah Ranjit Singh, it made me wonder just why anyone would celebrate the capture of Multan by a cruel Afghan ruler, in this case the invading Durrani Sadozais, and condemn its capture by a Punjabi monarch.
Surely while one does appreciate that Multan has been an important kingdom in history, it is strange that a foreign ruler should be celebrated and a true son of the soil winning back part of the land under foreign rule is to be condemned. To clarify, Multan was then ruled from Afghanistan and was a major route of invasion of India.
Surely Seraikisupporters need tolearn their history before they claim that a Multan province be recreated.
