REFERENCE news item `PM opens work on metro bus route to new airport` (May 7).
The 25.6-km route, including four interchanges,11underpasses and12 bridges, from Peshawar Morr to the new airport would be completed before Aug 14.
An amount of Rs18bn would be incurred on the project.
The report says further it will mostly cater to the 25,000 people who would be working at the new airport and will facilitate lower and middle class. It seems the government has no consideration for the daily plight of about 60,000 lower and middle class people from Rawat, DHA and Anchorage, to name a few, who travel to the city centre to work.
So much has been written about the traffic bottleneck between Gulberg green and Soan gardens, but the authorities remain unmoved. Why doesn`t the CDA act to mitigate the grievances of the people living on this side of Islamabad? It`s just a stretch of three 1(ilometres between Gulberg Green and Soan Gardens, which needs to be remodelled.
If nothing else, the authorities could at least regulate the heavy traffic during specified timings to ease the traffic rush for commuters on the Expressway.
