Former minister agrees to arbitration to settle dispute with ex-MPA

LARKANA: Mutual friends some chieftains of their tribes and bigwigs of different political parties of the Siyal and Abbasi families have succeeded in persuading former home minister Sohail Anwar Siyal to settle his dispute with exMPAMoazzimAbbasithrough arbitration.

Moazzim Abbasi, his son, Waleed, and their eight associates have been booked at the Dari police station over an alleged incident of firing on Siyal House. According to the FIR (No. 03/2025), Waleed and his eight associates came to Siyal House in several vehicles at around Dec 30-31 midnight with intention to kill Advocate Zaffar Anwar Siyal. When they were told that Zaffar was not present inside, theyresorted to aerial firing in front of the house to spread fear and panic, claimed the complainant, Zulfiqar Ali, the caretaker of Siyal House.

Since one of the vehicles, a doublecabin, belonged to the Abbasi family and was allegedly without a registration number, Anwar Siyal kept insisting that the `attack` was carried out by Waleed and his companions at the behest of his father Moazzim Abbasi. The FIR was lodged three days after the alleged firing incident.

Since then, the Abbasis and their friendly feudal lords and political figures had been making hectic efforts to persuade Anwar Siyal to withdraw the FIR.

However, Siyal was bent upon getting Moazzim Abbasi, Waleed and other nomi-nated suspects arrested before holding negotiations on the issue.

Over the last 10 days, Maulana Rashid Mahmood Soomro of JUI-F held several meetings with Siyal while chieftain of his tribe Sardar Khan Chandio also called on him twice in their efforts to get the matter settled amicably. PML-F General Secretary Sardar Abdul Rahim, former federal minister Murtaza Jatoi, former Sindh chief minister Liaquat Jatoi, Mir Abid Khan Jatoi, Sindh United Party leader Syed Zain Shah and many other prominent figures condemned registration of the FIR and called for its withdrawal.

Stalemate ends On late Monday evening, Nawab Sardar Khan Chandio met Anwar Siyal and persuaded him to drop the case filed against the ex-MPA.

He also met Mohazzim Abbasi at his residence in Kot Dorab.After the meetings, it was announced that the matter would be taken up for arbitration on January 18.

It was learnt that since the very first day, Sadar Chandio had constantly been making efforts to bring the two sides closer to each other.

A source close to ex-GDA lawmaker Moazzim Abbasi, confirmed the thaw to Dawn, and said the arbitration would be held in the Gartal area of QambarShahdadkot district. PPP MPA Nawab Sardar Khan Chandio would hear both sides and pronounce his decision, said the source.

At present, Moazzim Abbasi and his son Waleed are on an interim bail till January 22. One of the other suspects, Abdul Ahad Magsi, is in judicial custody till January 15 (today).

On Tuesday, Moazzim Abbasi along with Maulana Nasir Mehmood Soomro called on Dr Ibrahim Jatoi in Shikarpur and discussed this and other issues with him.
