Police claim killing four robbers in encounter

LA HORE: Police claimed that three robbers involved in the Millat Park incident and another bandit were killed in a shootout after their accomplices got them freed from police custody and tried to escape in the early hours of Friday.
Iqbal Town DSP Khalid Faroogi claimed that three robbers -Jahangir Abbas, Zahid and Zaheer Bhola --involved in the Millat Park incident were being taken to Hafizabad for recovery when their four accomplices riding on a car stopped the police team near Saggiyan bridge.
He said the suspects held the police party at pistol point, got their accomplices freed and escaped from the scene, leaving behind their car.
The DSP said another police party led by SubInspector Muhammad Akram chased the absconding robbers and their accomplices.
He said when the fleeing criminals saw police on their pursuit they opened fire which was returned.
He said four robbers suffered bullet wounds and fell on the ground while their three accomplices disappeared in the darkness.
The DSP said that two robbers were found dead and two others critically injured who also died later in a nearby hospital.
He said the dead criminals were wanted in 53 cases of robbery in Lahore, Sheikhupura, Hafizabad and other areas of Punjab.
Police removed the bodies, including that of fourth accomplice identified as Munawar, to a morgue.
