T HIS refers to your editorial `PM faces the JIT` (June 16) and the statement of Minister for Defence Khwaja Asif `Posterity to remember Nawaz for upholding rule of law` (June 16). Minister for Information Maryam Aurangzeb claimed `Nawaz Sharif has set a precedent by following the constitution` (June 16), which means that before this appearance, the constitution was not being followed. They have missed one thing.
In the same breath they should have accorded accolade to Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, Benazir Bhutto, Asif Zardari, Yousuf Raza Gilani, Pervez Musharraf for personally appearingin courtstofacecharges and upholding the rule of law.
Why should there be a different law for Nawaz Sharif and other mortals? The PM came in a bullet-proof airconditioned limousine under foolproof security and without waiting went straight into the JIT room and lef t at his convenience af ter three hours. Ordinary mortals undergo interrogation for hours.
Accountability is the beauty of democracy, but Nawaz Sharif and perhaps other PML-N leaders are experiencing this for the first time.
