City receives first monsoon downpour

LAHORE: The first heavy monsoon rain in Lahore and several other cities of P unjab on Sunday provided the relief the people had been looking for against the sultry weather.
The rain, nevertheless, resulted in the usual inconvenience caused by power breakdowns and inundation of low-lying areas in Lahore and elsewhere in the province.
However, the rain on a typical monsoons day kept temperatures comfortably low. In Lahore, the humidity in the air was 67 per cent but 33 degrees C maximum temperature gave it a soothing impact.
The Met Office recorded 41mm of rain at the airport and 34mm at its Jail Road observatory. It was 61mm in Johar Town, 52mm in Misri Shah, 50mm in Township, 47mm in the Walled City, 45mm in Iqbal Town and Samanabad, 39mm in Lakshmi and 38mm in Shahdara.
Meanwhile, Nurpur Thal received 119mm of rain which was the heaviest in the province, Toba Tek Singh 87mm, Jhang 72mm, Okara 48mm, Chakwal 44mm, Gujranwala and Bhakkar 42mm each, Kasur 33mm, Sahiwal 26mm, Layyah 20mm, Islamabad (Golra, Saidpur18mm,Bokra13mm, Zero Point 2mm), Sargodha 13mm, Rawalpindi (Chaklala 8mm, Shamsabad 4mm), Murree 2mm, Faisalabad 1mm.
