40 schools in Toba to be razed, rebuilt

TOBA TEK SINGH: Buildings of 40 government schools of Toba Tek Singh district that were declared dangerous by the buildings department in its recent survey report will be demolished and reconstructed.

A school education department official said on Sunday that Rs117 million will be spent on the reconstruction for which work will be started soon.

Most of the 40 school buildings that will be razed and rebuilt were located in Toba, Pirmahal, Kamalia and Fatehpur.

PRESSCLUBELECTIONS: Gojra Press Club elected its office-bearers on Sunday.

Haji Muhammad Sadiq was elected president, Malik Amjad Islam general secretary, Iqbal Janbaz finance secretary, Dr MuhammadHussain programme organiser, Saqib Mahmood Butt executive committee chairman and Gulzar Ahmad Baig and Zahid Chaudhry executive body members.

LIQUOR: District Police Officer Usman Akram Gondal said strict measures had been taken by the district police to prevent supply of liguor to Christian localities for the upcoming Christmas.

While talking to the media on Sunday after holding a meeting with police officials, he said more than 45 people had died last year when they consumed toxic liquor on Christmas.

He said during recent raids in various areas of the district police had recovered a large quantity of local liquor and imported wine.

He added that Rajana police had seized a distillery with hundreds of litres of prepared and raw liquor from a village on Sunday.
