PPP`s volley of questions to apex court

By Our Staff Reporter 2017-12-18
LA HORE: Referring to Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar`s statement about fair treatment in all cases by adjudicating the same without accepting any pressure, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has posed some questions to the Supreme Court.

`The Justice Baba (the phrase used by the CJP for an elderly wise person who offers solutions to their problems) should explain why he did decide in favour of each powerful dictator and provide constitutional cover to each martial law since the Maulvi Tameezuddin case,` PPP central information secretary Chaudhry Manzoor asked.

Complaining of `discriminatory` treatment given to the PPP in every case, he asked why the Baba did `injustice` in Nusrat Bhutto case by declaring Gen Zia`s martial law legitimate and again did `judicial murder` of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto though `confessed` later that the elected prime minister had beenhangedundercoercion.

In a statement, the PPP leaderrecalled that different scales were used while deciding dissolution of assemblies in the cases of Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif and that the same Baba again did injustice by giving legal cover to Gen Musharraf`s martial law in Zaf ar Ali Shah case and awarded the army dictator the right to amend the Constitution though it had neither been sought by the plaintiff nor the respondent.

He said the Baba should also explain why five of his sons asked for reopening of the Hudaibya Reference while three ordered against it.

The Baba heard appeal of Nawaz Sharif against the former prime minister`s conviction during Musharraf regime nine years after the case was decided in violation of the time bar but in Hudaibya case the same time bar was offered as an excuse not to reopen the reference, he wondered.

And last but not the least, the Baba did not consider the repeated confession of Imran Khan of setting up an offshore company and absolved the PTI chairman of all allegations in this respect, Chaudhry Manzoor added.
