Lesco staffers end strike, resume duty

LAHORE: The Lesco employees of the Gawalmandi and other subdivisions, who were on strike to protest action against their senior colleague on power theft charges, have resumed duties after the authorities assured them of `justice ` The decision was taken after a dialogue between the representatives of the two sides, including the Lesco Engineers Association and the hydro electric union, at the Lesco chief office.

The union leaders also expressed their dissatisfaction over the inquiry committee which had held Gawalmandi sub-division chapter of hydro union chairman Mazahir Hussain Shah guilty of charges levelled by the respective SDO Naveed Shahnawaz.

The Lesco chief had suspended him from service on the basis of the [inquiry] report. All Pakistan hydro union deputy secretary Osama Tariq said the [union] representatives convinced the authorities to hold a fresh probe.

He said the authorities concerned were apprised that Mazahar was not involved in power theft.

`He [Mazahar] has been allowed to resume his duties,` he said.

Mr Osama said the allegations levelled by the Gawalmandi SDO against Mazahar would be reinvestigated by another committee.
