Remand of former SSGC officers extended

KARACHI: An accountability court on Wednesday further extended the physical remand of two former senior officials of the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) in a corruption inquiry till Jan 29.

The National Accountability Bureau had arrested former SSGC managing director Zuhair Siddiqui and former deputy MD Shoaib Warsi in November 2015 for allegedlymisappropriating SSGC funds, making illegal appointments during their tenure, misusing their authority in favour of LPG projects, illegally approving industrial, commercial and power generation gas connections and illegal consultancy to a private hospital from 2009 to 2013.

After the end of their last remand, the investigating ofhcer produced both suspects, who have been in the custody of NAB since their arrest, in court and sought fur-ther extension in their custody.

The administrative judge of accountability courts, Saad Qureshi, granted 10-day extension.

The suspects had been detained by the Rangers in August last year for three months for allegedly embezzling funds and financing terrorism.
