Court orders treatment of held ex-FCS chief

KARACHI: A sessions court directed the prison authorities on Monday to provide medical treatment to a former chairman of the Fishermen Cooperative Society.

Former FCS chief Dr Nisar Moral has been booked in the murder case of former Pakistan Steel Mills chairman Sajjad Hussain, who was gunned down in the Defence Housing Authority in 1998.

Rangers picked up Dr Morai in March and held him under three-month preventive detention for an inquiry. He was handed over to police in the present case on June 15 and the next day court remanded him in prison.

Through his lawyer, the suspect moved an application and submitted that he was unwell and needed medical treatment.

After hearing both sides, an additional district and sessions judge (south) directed the jail superintendent to provide required medical treatment to the applicant and shif t him to hospital if necessary.

Order reserved A sessions court reserved on Monday its order on an application of police seeking custody of a suspect in a case pertaining to the mysterious death of a woman.

Rizwan Ayaz Khan and his wife, Sonia, have been booked for their alleged involvement in the murder of Haleema, who was found dead in her flat in Delhi Colony on May 31, while Rizwan admitted her three-yearold son Abdullah to the Edhi Centre on May 25. A judicial magistrate has already sent the couple to prison.

The investigating officer moved an application seeking custody of Rizwan for further questioning by submitting that the suspect was not properly interrogated as he was remanded in prison at the first hearing because of negligence of his predecessor (first IO).

After hearing the prosecutor and the defence counsel, the court reserved its order on the application till Tuesday.
