LOOMING DEBT TRAP: This is with

LOOMING DEBT TRAP: This is with reference to the report ‘Stability prompts Moody’s to lift Pakistan’s credit rating’ (Aug 25). International agencies generally upgrade rating when a country is operating under some International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme. The moot point is whether this improvement lessens the vulnerability of Pakistan’s economy and improves national economic growth.

Can it help the country come out of the looming debt trap? Further, the downside is the propensity to borrow more owing to greater access to market with the possibility of lower cost. The improvement in rating does not cut the burden of debt. It is a ploy to keep the country under perpetual debt rather than pushing governments to seek non-debt solutions.

ArifMajeed Karachi UNDERAGE BIKERS: Young children aged 10-15 years can be seen riding motorcycles on streets and roads. What is unfortunateistheirrecklessness.

They drive their bikes roughly at a high speed, causing accidents, particularly after sunset. The negligence of parents cannot be denied who give motorcycles to their underage children, completely oblivious ofthe hazards their children pose to themselves and others. The traffic authoritiesshould take necessary steps and seize motorcycles from youngsters to mitigate the risk of major accidents.

Mumtaz Hussain Karachi MAINTAINING PUBLIC PARKS: The Punjab government is doing a great job in maintaining roads and public parks.

Every colony has a park. Clean parks provide people with a healthy environment and make cities more beautiful and pleasant to live in. I am a resident of Larkana currently living in Lahore to pursue academic goals. There is a beautiful park in front of my hostel. Every morning, I go there and exercise in fresh air. Thankfully, I do not have to go far for exercise andfresh airbecause the park is very close to my hostel. The government should continue its efforts to keep these parks clean and well-maintained.
