Senate elections

2015-02-23
THE respect and dignity of the Election Commission was adversely affected by the controversial elections of 2013. Now nomination papers have been filed for the Senate elections and the voting is fixed for March 5. There are reports of horse trading and the price is quoted as high as Rs200 million. The Election Commission seems to be in hibernation and is in no mood to take notice of this.

Imran Khan`s suggestion of open voting in the coming Senate elections should be given serious consideration to ensure transparency and expose scrupulous aspirants.

Will the Election Commission speak out before its credibility is further eroded? Arif Karachi
