Heer Ranjha per formed on UoG campus

SIALKOT: Lahore-based amateur actors came together under the Sangat Group to stage a play, Heer Ranjha, at the auditorium of University of Gujrat (UoG) Sialkot Campus on Sunday.

The play was based on Heer Waris Shah. The 90 minutes long performance by the troupe won the hearts of the audience as the auditorium resounded with their clapping at the end of the play.

Rehan Younas, chief executive officer of the UoG Siallcot Campus, Faisal Manzur, chairman, Kaleem Raza, director Students Affairs, and Sangat Group`s leader Huma Safdar said the objective of staging the play was to raise cultural awareness among the audience through theatre. They hailed the performance by the female artistes and pledged to continue promoting similar cultural activities.

People from all walks of life attended this event.

FLYOVER: The Punjab government has released a grant of Rs1bn for constructing a flyover at China Chowk.

This flyover has been named af ter Prof Asghar Saudai, the Sialkot-based senior educationist, poet and the man who coined the slogan,`Pakistan Ka Matlab Kiya La Ilaaha II Allah.

This was stated by Punjab Minister for Local Bodies Manshaullah Butt while addressing a meeting of the PML-N workers at the PML-N House. He said the flyover would help reduce the traffic flow on the main inter-city roads in Sialkot. It would be the second flyover in the Sialkot city. He said the project would be completed within a year.

Sialkot Mayor Chaudhry Tauheed Akhtar, MPAs Chaudhry Muhammad Ilcram and Chaudhry Tariq Akhtar Subhani and PML-N (Women Wing) Sialkot President Nusrat Jamshaid Malik were also present.

ACCIDENT: A man died and 19 other passengers of a van were injured as it turned turtle near village Maalipur on the Sialkot-Pasrur Road.

The deceased was identified as Muhammad Aslam (43).

The Rescue 1122 officials shif ted the injured to a hospital in Sialkot where the condition of six of the injured was stated to be critical.
