LGs asked to set aside funds for education, disaster management

MANSEHRA: District nazim Sardar Said Ghulam has asked nazims of village and neighbourhood councils in Mansehra to earmark special funds to promote education and handle natural calamities in their respective areas.
`The district government has beenfocusingoneducadonasone of its top priorities. You should also follow suit by earmarking special funds for education sector and disaster management in your respective village and neighbourhood councils,` he told the representatives of district and tehsil administrations and local government here on Monday.
Assistant commissioner Abdul Rehman told participants that the government would monitor the performance of village andneighbourhood councils and the names of those showing extraordinary performance would be highlighted on of ficial websites.
`You should equally focus on the issues related to cleanliness in your village and neighbourhood councils. A lack of cleanliness is causing outbreak of diseases,` he said. Mr Rehman said village and neighbourhood councils were supposed to address civic issues at village level.
The participants later took part in a walk organised to increase public awareness of the ways and means to keep the city clean and pollution-free.
BLACK DAY OBSERVED: The teacher s of the Hazara University on Monday observed a black day against the alleged revengeful atutude of the vicechancellor towards professors and lecturers for raising voice against poor administration.`The vice-chancellor wants to target us, the faculty, for raising voice against his worst administration but we will never yield to his revengeful tactics,` joint secretary of the Hazara University Academic Staff Association (HUASA) Sajidul Ghafoor told reporters here.
Mr Ghafoor said the association would take up the issue with the provincial and national university academic staff associations to check the `excesses` of the VC. He said the university`s teachers would continue wearing black armbands.
Also in the day, the HU administration issued a news release claiming some `disgruntled elements` have been spreading negative propaganda against it.
It added that for the first time in the university`s history, it was acting strictly in compliance with the relevant laws and rules.
