Protesters seek arrest of journalist`s killers

KARAK, Oct 24: Local mediapersons, traders, political workers and members of civil society held a protest march and blocked the KarakBannu road here on Thursday against the administration`s failure to arrest the killers of journalist Ayub Khan Khattak.

The protesters also set a three-day deadline for the administration to arrest the killers. Led by Mohammad Nawaz, Khalid Khattak and Sadullah, the protesters marched from Peer Odin Shah Mosque and gathered at Saddam Chowk where they chanted slogans againstthe administration.

Addressing the protesters, the speakers condemned the murder of the journalist and alleged that the district administration was not making any efforts to arrest his killers.

The speakers said that the journalist community in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was vulnerable to threats as no proper measures were taken to provide them security.

They also condemned attack on journalist Sardar Shafique in Abbottabad.

The office-bearersof political parties, traders and civil society activists participatedin the protest as a mark of solidarity with mediapersons.

LOW GAS PRESSURE: The people of Banda Daud Shah tehsil staged a protest demonstration against low gas pressure in the district and blocked the KohatBannu road at Khurram for several hours here on Thursday.

Led by former councillor Rafiullah, the protesters belonging to different areas marched to Khurram and blocked the Karak-Bannu road for several hours.

The speakers on the occasion complained that theywere facing hardships owing to low gas pressure. They said that the oil and gas produced in Karak district was being supplied to other parts of the country, but its own residents were deprived of it.

They resolved to stop movement of the officials and vehicles of gas companies if gas pressure was not restored within a week.

They also threatened to extend the protest to district level and asked the SNGPL authorities to realise their promises otherwise they would block the Indus Highway in second phase of their protest.
