HARIPUR: A married woman has allegedly been tortured and poisoned to death in a remote Makhniyal village here.

Makhniyal police quoted Imtiaz Ahmed of Ramiyal village as saying on Tuesday that his sister Kulsoom Bibi, 22, was married to Mohammad Saqib of Jalees village two years ago and they had no children due to which her in-laws and husband would taunt and beat her.

He stated that she was compelled to come to her parents` home thrice, but on the assurance of local jirgas she was sent back to her husband`s home.

The complainant alleged that on Monday night Bibi`s husband and his mother severely beat her and forced her to consume some poisonous substance before locking her in her bedroom.

He said that Bibi was found dead in her bedroom on Tuesday morning, but her in-laws informed her parents claiming that she had committed suicide.

According to the complainant and doctors, who conducted her autopsy, the body carried torture marks. Makhniyal police have registered a murder case against Saqib and his mother. They claimed to have arrested Saqib.
