RIGHT TO EDUCATION: The rising cost of higher education in Pakistan is becoming a serious issue, as it is causing difficulty to students from low-income backgrounds. University fee continues to increase without reason, while scholarships and financial aid remain limited.
The government must prioritise investment in the education sector, and ensure that financial assistance is available to the needy. Education should be declared a non-profit undertaking to make it accessible. Affordable education means a stronger economy and a better future.
Tooba Tariq Rawalpindi UNSAFE AREAS: Violent crimes have become a norm in various areas of Sindh, mainly Ghotki, Shikarpur and Kashmore. The masses continue to live in misery. They are unable to earn their bread and butter, and are deprived oftheir basic right to healthcare and education.
Teachers feel insecure about performing their duties, and doctors avoid visiting these areas due to insecurity. The government must take immediate action.
Mumtaz Ali Narejo Gambat A DANGEROUS ROUTE: Travelling from Lahore to Quetta via Zhob and Dera Ghazi Khan has become a risky journey owing to increasing cases of highway robbery. There have been occasions when drivers have lost their lives while trying to escape a robbery bid. Most checkposts in the Balochistan zone remain non-functional after sunset. The government should take action to resolve the issue.
Mehboob Khan Pishin PHULELI BRIDGE: Frequent traffic jams on the Phuleli Bridge in Hyderabad have been affecting the commuters.
Although a parallel bridge project was approvedin2007to ease the burden on the current bridge, nothing has materialised on the ground. The authorities should expedite the process. Besides, there should be strict traffic management, including designated lanes for public transport, and removal of all encroachments.
