Enforcement of Urdu in all depts urged

KARACHI: An Imam Ahmed Raza Conference has demanded of the government to enforce Urdu in all official departments immediately in the light of a verdict of the Supreme Court and also set up Imam Ahmad Raza chairs in all the universities of Pakistan as he was not only a great religious scholar, but also an expert in Quranic exegesis and Hadees, a Muslim jurist, philosopher, orator, Urdu writer of high calibre and a Naat poet.

This demand was made in one of the resolutions adopted at the 37th annual Imam Ahmad Raza Conference titled `Literary Services of Maulana Ahamd Raza` held jointly in collaboration with Idara Tehqiqat-iImam Ahmed Raza International and Shoba-iUrdu of Karachi University in the Arts Auditorium on Tuesday.

Those who spoke on the occasion included Prof Dr Sehar Ansari, Dr Riaz Majeed, Dr Humayyun Abbas Shams and Idara president and its secretary.
