KARACHI: The Sindh High Court directed the home secretary to convene another session of the Joint Investigation Team within 15 days to track down missing son of a lawyer.

Headed by Justice Naimatullah Phulpoto, a two-judge bench was hearing the petition of Advocate Abdul Sattar for the recovery of his son, Noor Mohammed.

According to the petitioner lawyer, unidentified men intercepted his son outside the city courts and took him away in April 2012 and since then his whereabouts were unknown.

He said that he had approached the area police and other officials of the law enforcement agencies for the recovery of Noor Mohammed but in vain as they feigned ignorance about the arrest and detention of his son.

The petitioner said that the law enforcement agencies had failed to locate his son.He asked the court to order the provincial police chief and other law enforcement agencies to ascertain the whereabouts of his missing son and produce him in the court.

Besides, the same bench heard several others petitions seeking whereabouts of people who were allegedly in the custody of the law enforcement agencies.

While hearing one of the petitions, the bench took serious notice of the failure of a deputy superintendent of police in making serious efforts for the recovery of a young man whose whereabouts remained unknown since his disappearance.

The bench directed the senior superintendent of police (east) to appear in court and explain as to why no efforts were made to track down the missing man, Mohammed Rafiq Baloch.

His cousin Abdul Latif Baloch filed the petition alleging that he was picked by Rangers outside his house.-Staff Reporter
