I SAW a picture of a busy road in Davis, California, on the international pages of Dawn (Jan 10).
In this picture a long queue of wild turkeys is crossing a road while many vehicles are standing still to let them pass.
This picture is a huge contrast to what happens on our roads in the morning.
Hundreds of children with heavy bags are standingallalongourroads.
They look helplessly on the unbreakable lines of speeding vehicles. They have to cross the road to reach their schools. However, no one stops nor slows down for them. Sometimes they take the initiative, but then run back to avoid an imminent danger. Often accidents happen in this relentless effort to cross the road.
Many children are maimed or lose their lives. Why can`t we learn enough discipline to do to our kids what American drivers can do to wild turkeys? Muhammad Ashtar Islamabad
