LHC defers territorial issue

2016-08-02
LAHORE: A Lahore High Court larger bench deferred on Monday the question of territorial jurisdiction of its principal seat and regional benches until some other time in any other case dismissing an application on the matter as withdrawn.

The seven-judge bench, headed by Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, decided to take up the matter at some later stage after the petitioner withdrew his application seeking transfer of a case from Bahawalpur bench to the principal seat.

In this case the bench had appointed senior lawyers as amicus curies seeking their assistance on the matter. Supreme Court Bar Association President Barrister Syed Ali Zafar, of the amucis curies, stated that the regional benches of the high court were established under the Constitution and there was no bar on any citizen from the territorial jurisdiction of these benches to directly approach its principal seat.-Staff Reporter
