THE traffic police of Lahore are very aggressive these days and hand out citations for traffic violations like not wearing seat belts and using cell phones during driving. It is good to ensure the enforcement of traffic laws. However, I observed several times that traffic police officials and other functionaries commit the same violations themselves. I have never seen a traffic police officer write a ticket to these errants.
The traffic police officers advise people to opt for on-spot chargesheets and payment of fines so as to avoid the lengthy procedure of payment of penalty in banks and retrieval of documents. People usually opt for this option but the traffic policeman does not give any receipt or proof of receiving payment. I request the authorities concerned to evolve a procedure to issue an invoice of payment of chargesheet.
