AS a small time numerologist, I sometimes try to venture into the future. I don`t forecast big things like what the future holds for such and such politician. No. That`s not my field. My area is mundane things which touch our everyday lives. My forecast for 2016 is that those eye-catching plastic shopping bags will fly around streets and will happily choke gutters till the 31st of December. Please correct me if I am wrong.
We are not a poor nation. These bags lovingly called shoppers are a witness to the fact that our economy is booming.
When I see a shopper I see a bigger picture behind it. Somebody had gone to the market and he made a purchase. That means a transaction had taken place. He came home, took the things out and threw the bag in the street. Now that person is not a litter bug. In fact, he is helping the economist to see that money has changed hands and some money had been injected into the national economy.
The more shoppers litter the streets of the nation, the better and stronger the economy is. So, my fellow country men and women should rest assured that when you wake up on Jan 1, 2017, you are not going to miss a colourful little thing flying in the breeze in your backyard. Happy New Year.
