Key QAT leader quits party

LARKANA: In a voice of dissent against central leadership over talks with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and withdrawal of the strike call, Qaumi AwamiTahreek (QAT) central vice president Zaffar Larr resigned from the office and basic membership of the party on Tuesday.

Mr Larr told Dawn that he had tendered resignation and faxed its copy to the central leadership in protest againstnegotiating with the MQM which, according to him, is the killer of Nawaz Kanrani and Ghazala Batool. He said the talks were held in violation of a decision of the central committee which barred negotiating with the MQM and PPP.

QAT central president AyazLatif Palijo phoned Mr Larr and told him that a committee was constituted to sort out the matter as `we don`t want to leave you`, said Mr Larr. QAT general secretary Anwar Soomro also talked to Mr Larr and tried to convince him not to leave the party, he said.
