KHURSHEED Shah has again made a frivolous statement that if Kalabagh dam is constructed Sindh would become a desert.
He, perhaps, doesn`t know that, if built, Kalabagh dam will not consume water but store it.
Sindh will get 37pc of stored water, while Punjab gets an equal share. Punjab has 73pc of irrigated area of Pakistan.
Kalabagh dam will store rainwater of five rivers that converge at Attock in addition to glacier water. Mr Khursheed repeats wrong apprehensions which can neverbe provedtrue.
India has built 4,000 dams, while China 27,000 dams in the past four decades. Our so-called democratic governments have not built a single mega dam owing to the stubborn attitude of Sindh which amounts to refusal to accept 2.2 MAF of stored water in the Kalabagh dam.
The only two dams built or initiated were by Ayub Khan i.e., Tarbela and Mangla.
The latteris beingrepaired and Tarbelais silting by the day.
Mr Khursheed will deprive us of waters of western rivers, while India builds scores of dams on our rivers in occupied Kashmir. Is there no one in the government to check people like Mr Khursheed, who should not play with the destiny of Pakistan? Dr Muhammad Yaqoob Bhatti Lahore
