Reasons for terrorism

2016-04-08
IN the last few days three acts of terrorism happened, all showing an increase in extremism in Pakistan. One relates to thesit-in at the `red zone` in Islamabad.

The second was the manhandling of Junaid Jamshed at Lahore airport, and the third the Gulshan-i-Iqbal Park mass murder.

The Lahore massacre has jolted the entire nation and evoked sympathetic response from the world.

We only hear: this is the reaction to the army operation; banned religious outfits are involved; it is the misguided youths of the seminaries; it is R AW, `Islamic State`, the Taliban, etc.

Why can`t we find the real cause or causes of this scourge? Unless we find out the causes, can we cure this cancer? S.M. Anwar Karachi (2) AFTER the Lahore attack, the authorities and the media showed the CNIC of a person, Yousuf, and stated him as the suicide bomber. Law enforcers also arrested three of his brothers and raided a seminary where he was a teacher.

However, later it was revealed that he was not the suicide bomber but a victim of the blast. Yousuf only came to visit the park. The media and the authorities concerned, without investigating properly, named him as the suicide bomber.

If his CNIC was lying in the park and the media showed it, then this also shows the inefficiency of the media, which was allowed to go to the areas where the blast occurred.

The government and the media should apologise to the family for this. Pemra should also take action against the TV channels concerned.
