Point buses shortage

2016-06-08
THE students of Karachi University face problems in reaching the campus due to an acute shortage of university point buses.

There are just 34 point buses, of which at most 27 vehicles are operating to cater to the needs of some 28,000 plus students, nonacademic staff and teachers. This works out to more than 1,000 students per vehicle.

As a result the point buses that ply on various routes are dangerously overcrowded. In the past there have been mishaps where some students have died while many more were injured after falling from the overcrowded buses.

The authorities should provide more point buses and should even revise upward the fare which is a ridiculous Rs3 per journey.
