HYDERABAD: Two offices of the Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (Hesco) were ransacked on Thursday by an angry man, who also thrashed some employees of the utility, apparently after being refused quick replacement of the PMT in a locality.

Hesco officials claimed the unruly man belonged to the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) but the party`s district chief said he could not verify the claim.

The Hesco divisional office at Alamdar Chowk in Qasimabad and the Hirabad sub-division office at Hala Naka within the jurisdiction of the Baldia police station were ransacl
They said windowpanes were smashed and furniture was broken, adding that some low-grade employees present in the offices were roughed up as well.

A Hesco spokesman, executive engineer Ghulam Farooq Tunio, informed the power utility management that PML-N youth wing leader Ghulam Shabbir Chandio had visited one of the offices to take up the issue of replacement of a transformer in certain locality. The activist reacted violently when he was told that installation of transformer required completion of procedural formalities, he said. The activist, however, insisted that the work had to be carried out as soon as possible.

PML-N Hyderabad district chief Haneef Siddiqui, when contacted, confirmed that Mr Chandio was a leader of the party`s young wing but said that he could not get in touch with him as Mr Chandio`s cellphone appeared switched off.
