LAHORE: The Supreme Court on Monday directed the Punjab IG and the Multan regional police officer to conclude at the earliest an inquiry into bogus appointments and transfers of police personnel.
A two-judge bench was hearing police department`s appeal against an order of the Lahore High Court that reinstated 62 personnel. The department had dismissed the personnel from service for their involvement in criminal activities.
Multan RPO Tariq Masood and other police officers appeared before the bench along with government law officers.
Additional Advocate General Arif Raja told the bench that the scandal of bogus appointments and transfers was being probed in all districts of Punjab. He said 10 officials had been arrested while raids were being conducted to nab the remaining involved in the scam.
He said show-cause notices were also issued to different RPOs and DPOs for showing negligence in the scrutiny of the new induction in the department.
The bench headed by Justice Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhry adjourned further hearing till first week of December and directed the IG and other high-ups to conclude the probe without delay.
