Small dam in Lower Dir to be completed in two years

TIMERGARA: Work on Sanam dam would be completed within two years that will cost Rs714 million.

Briefing local politicians and district administration in Chakdara, Mohammad Iqbal Khalil, the managing director of the project, said that water channels of the dam would irrigate 1,500 acres of land in Adenzai.

MPA Bakht Baidar Khan, Khizar Hayat, deputy director, Attaur Rehman, deputy commissioner, Shah Jamil, assistant commissioner, and local elders attended the briefing.

The construction of Sanam dam has been a long standing demand of the people of Adenzai. The dam will be built in Sanam area on Asbanr stream.

Mr Khalil said that small dams on rivers and streams had great importance in preventing soil erosion, generating energy and flourishing fisheries. About the Sanam dam, he said that 90 per cent funds would be provided by the federal government. He said that work on the project would be started soon.

He said that the dam would have 102 feet height and 1,425 feet length while1,400-meter long water channels would irrigate 1,500 acres of land in Adenzai.

CAMP: The army in collaboration with Dir Task Force and Al-Shifa Eye Trust, Rawalpindi on Thursday set up a free eye camp at Lal Qila Maidan.

The eye specialists examined patients at the camp and provided them with free medicines and spectacles.Students of three schools were also informed about eye diseases and its prevention on the occasion while children below five years were given anti-polio drops.

WATER SUPPLY: Founder of Shakil Shaheed Development Organisation (SSDO) Dr Bakht Jamal Shah inaugurated a newly completed water supply scheme in Nasafa Talash here during a function.

The scheme was completed with the financial support of community driven local government development programme.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Bakht Jamal said that local people had been facing shortage of drinking water. He said that the pro-ject would benefit hundreds of f amilies in the locality.

BOYCOTT: The lawyers in Lower Dir on Thursday boycotted court proceedings against the alleged insulting attitude of Assistant Commissioner Obaidullah Khattak with a senior lawyer of Attaur Rahman.

In this connection a hurriedly called meeting of Timergara Bar Association was held.

The meeting condemned the alleged misuse of authority by assistant commissioner and demanded disciplinary action against him.

The participants of the meeting said that the of ficial kept the senior lawyer in illegal confinement.
