GB: plea for rights

2017-11-15
DURING the last 70 years Gilgit-Baltistan has given the country enormous resources, both human and natural, which resulted in monetary gains and recognition.

Several talented GB men and women had served Pakistan well. The Northern Light Infantry (NLI) defends our border and provides security to areas like Swat, Wana and Karachi. People lil(e Havaldar Lalak Jan Shaheed, a recipient of Nishan-i-Haider, gave his life as an NLI member.

GB has also produced mountaineers Hassan Sadpara and Samina Baig, and Nishat Riaz, director of education for the British Council in Pakistan a recipient of the Order of the British Empire Award.

What have the GB people been given in return? When they ask for their rights in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor they are labelled rebels. Many GB residents are in prisons and many are treated like terrorists for speaking out for rights. This is political activism and is their human right. This is not terrorism.

We are all for development. But we want our political right and free access to health and education.
