N the occasion of the National Day of the Portuguese Republic, I extend my warm congratulations to the government and people of Portugal.
Since 1949, both countries have sustained a strong partnership founded on mutual respect, friendship and cooperation. This relationship has progressively expanded across diverse sectors, including trade, culture, renewable energy, tourism, textiles, education and development.
These ties are further reinforced by long-standinghistorical linkages between Europe and South Asia, and continued people-to-people exchanges. The Embassy of Portugal in Pakistan and AKDN Pakistan have developed a robust partnership centred on cultural exchange, heritage conservation and intercultural dialogue, promoting pluralism and mutual understanding. Through cultural events and expert discussions, they have deepened appreciation of shared histories and artistic traditions. We also congratulate Portugal on its election as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2027-2028 term, reflecting its continued commitment to multilateralism and constructive global engagement.
