All 10 accused in three activists` killing cases acquitted

THATTA: The Model Criminal Trial Court of Thatta on Saturday acquitted all 10 accused nominated in the FIR and counter FIR pertaining to the 2016 clash between Pakistan Peoples Party and Sindh TaraqqiPasand Party supporters in Mirpur Bathoro.
Two PPP activists, Shams Shoro and his brother Shahzad Shoro, and an STP activist, Mehboob Shah, were killed in the clash between the two sides, one backed by the Shoro community and the others by Syeds.
Deceased Shams Shoro`s younger brother, Sajjad Ali Shoro, Javed Shoro, Junaid Shoro and a private body guard, Fayyaz Khado, were nominated in the FIR lodged by the heirs of deceased Mehboob Shah.
In the counter FIR lodged by heirs of deceased Shoro brothers, six suspects, Syed Jalal Shah, Rukhsar Shah, Mumtaz Shah, Zain Shah, Afsar Shah and Jogi Shah were nominated as accused.
On Saturday, Additional Sessions Judge Mohammad Aslam pronounced his judgement and held that sufficient ground could not be established by the prosecution to connect the accused with the alleged offence. Hence they are acquitted of the charges of intentional murder (Qatl-e-Amd).
The judge observed that `there is a basic principle of criminal law that the case should be proven beyond any shadow of doubt against the accused but both the cases are replete with doubts... .
