Senator to be indicted in illegal land allotment case

ISLAMABAD: An accountability court of Islamabad on Tuesday decided to indict Senator Robina Khalid on July 23 in connection with illegal allotment of government land for private business at Lok Virsa.

Accountability judge Mohammad Bashir resumed proceeding in the reference filed by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) against Senator RobinaKhalid and others.

Robina Khalid, M/s Cosmos Production chief executive Dr Tabinda Zafar, former executive director of Lok Virsa Mazharul Islam appeared before the accountability court.

NAB on July 1 filed reference against Senator Robina Khalid and others alleging that during investigation it has beenestablished that Mazharul Islam by misusing his authority extended the contracts in favour of M/s Cosmos Production in connivance with Robina Khalid and Dr Tabinda Zafar.

The accused gained illegal benefits by getting the extension of agreement without calling the fresh tenders and also failed to deposit 50pc profit earned bythem, which resulted into R s30.13 million loss to the national exchequer.

The reference further alleged that the evidence collected during the investigation had established that the accused committe d the offence of corruption and corrupt practices under section 9(a) and punishable under section 10 of National Accountability Ordinance 1999. Staff Reporter
