Tribal force reprimanded over rise in target killings

2017-05-18
LANDI KOTAL: The Khyber Agency political administration has shown annoyance over increasing incidents of targeted killings in Jamrud and reprimanded Khasadar and Levies personnel for their failure to control such incidents.

Addressing a `Darbar` of Khasadar and Levies forces in Jamrud on Wednesday, Assistant Political Agent Ziaur Rehman Marwat showed disappointment over the poor performance of the tribal force.

He said that the Darbar was convened to inform them of their negligence in fulfilling official responsibilities.

He also issued `shoot on sight` orders of any suspected person to Khasadar Force in Jamrud tehsil.

He said that security at all the checkposts would be enhanced along with intensifying patrolling of all the roads by Khasadar and Levies personnel.

The official once again announced ban on pillion riding in Jamrud for an indefinite period and ordered the tribal force to take stern action against the violators.

The Khasadar Force later in the day impounded dozens of motorcycles in different parts of Jamrud.

The local administration had on a number of occasions imposed ban on pillion riding with little success in tracking down the people involved in targeted killing.

Official data shows that four people with three Levies personnel among them have been killed in targeted attacks in Jamrud during the last seven weeks.

Unidentified gunmen fired at a Levies man Rehman Shah in Sur Kamar area on Tuesday evening, injuring him critically.

He later died in a hospital. Militant group Jamaatul Ahrar claimed responsibility for the incident.

The local administration on Wednesday also appealed to people to cooperate with the law enforcement agencies in maintenance of law and order and keeping a strict vigil on the movement of suspected people. Correspondent
