Proposals sought to reopen Mardan varsity

MARDAN: The district administration has sought written suggestions from all stakeholders to make a decision about reopening of Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan The university was closed after lynching of a student, Mashal Khan, by a mob on its premises on April 13.
In this regard, a meeting was held here on Wednesday at the office of deputy commissioner. The meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Dr Imran Hamid Shiekh.
DPO Dr Mian Saeed Ahmad, pro-vice chancellor of university Dr Jehanzeb Khalil Khan, registrar Dr Sher Alam Khan, PML-N district president Syed Inayat Bacha, JI district emir Dr Attaur Rehman, PPP district general secretary Aurangzeb Khan, ANP district general secretary Latifur Rehman, JUI-F district general secretary Maulana Amanat Shah, JUI-P provincial emir Fayaz Asli Shah, Tanzim-i-Tajraan district president Ihsan Bacha, members of civil society and people from different walks of life attended the meeting.
Mr Sheikh told the meeting thathe attended a meeting called by higher education secretary few days ago wherein it was decided that the university would be reopened after making consultations with local stakeholders.
He said that in the light of that decision, he called the meeting so that all the relevant stakeholders could discuss the issue ofreopening of the university.
The deputy commissioner asked the participants of the meeting to put forward their written suggestions till llam on Thursday (today) regarding reopening of the university.
DPO Dr Mian Saeed Ahmad said that they had to reopen the university at all costs as they could not waste precious time of students. He urged the participants of the meeting not to politicise the issue.
Dr Jehanzeb Khalil, the newly appointed pro-vice chancellor of the university, told the meeting that he had taken charge of his post three to four days ago.
He, however, said that he had called a meeting of the university administration soon after his appointment and had taken steps on war-footing by making some necessary transferor and changes in the varsity administration.
